The Point is one of the favorite wavesailing spots on the OBX. Ocean conditions are usually tamer along this stretch of beach in both SW or N wind directions. In S winds, Diamond Shoals dampens the incoming S swell producing a mellower wave. On N wind, the orientation of the beach provides side shore conditions with less pound both in the zone and at the beach as compared to the northern east facing beaches. The sand bars are usually well formed with nice outside lineups.
The Point is recommend for wavesailors looking for moderate level conditions; though it can get big there too!
4WD is recommended though there is a paved parking lot nearby where you can hike your gear out. The Point is basically referenced as any point from the ramp south to the actual Cape Point. Where it wraps, in to the west, this area is known as the Point/Cove.
