Windsurfing near Coyote Point

Nearby Windguru Forecasts

I am not a Bay Area sailor, (I mostly sail Southern California) I sailed here once in August and it was great. 15-20mph winds. I rented a rig from the shop right next to the water (Very friendly and helpful) Someone with more knowledge of this spot could write more about it.

Unfortunately, the shop closed down or moved or something. Great spot. Nice county park with alleged hot showers, $5.00 entrance fee if there is someone at the gate. Otherwise, you can park outside by the power lines where the aformentioned store was, rig up, and walk in about 100 ft. with your stuff.

The shop is called ASD and it did move from just outside the park to right on the water inside the park (if you zoom in all the way, it's in the building you see directly to the right of the parking lot on the water). Problem is that as of 2007 they've stopped stocking gear, are barely ever there and aren't renting anymore. Occasionally John will show up with a board or two and offer to order gear for you... Sad as this was a great shop over the years.

The power line parking spot is in the southwest corner of the cove on Airport Boulevard, but most everyone launches from the parking lot inside the park now. Great place to sail from March - Oct. Great days feature wind from the Northwest and thermal action from inland heating while Coyote remains relatively cooler. Wind from the Southwest is a bad sign, as is very hot weather on the Peninsula or days when it's socked in by fog. Consider Candlestick-Point for hot days and Palo Alto for the fogged in / Southwest days.

The launch in the park at Coyote is for windsurfing only - no kiters. A few kiters will launch from the power line spot, but most kiters are down the road at 3rd avenue.
