Windsurfing near Bradford Beach

Bradford Beach faces Southeast, so sail from the North end of Bradford Beach on a Northeast wind which brings the biggest waves that roll sideshore fast, but don't break. They get big though by as much as 12-15 feet. The near shore break is rather small, but once you get out, be prepared. Northeast winds can be the some of the strongest and steadiest when it happens with winds up 25-30 knots.

Sail from the South end of Bradford Beach on a Southeast wind or true South. The wind will come from Southeast rarely on a thermal. If it does fill in, you can get a solid 20 knot wind that roars straight onshore and can be difficult for inexperienced sailors to get out.

The last wind you can sail here is a Southwest wind which can be rather sketchy. It can go from 13 knots and then gust up to 25-30 knots in a heartbeat. When it blows from this direction, it is better to move south of Bradford Beach to what they call Personal Watercraft (jetskis) Beach, then tack out hard and schlog to get in front of the harbor. The wind roars over the harbor so look over your shoulder for the wind to come at you. It will be flat water blasting that sometimes is better with a little bigger board that you can schlog on. Small board riders can become very frustrated. Bigger boards will ride out the lulls in the wind.
