Bertra Strand is located outside the village of Murrisk, 11km from Westport town. The strand is on a spit of land that reaches out into Clew Bay. This means that it works in pretty much all wind directions. The spot is generally excellent for speed, freestyle, freeride etc. but not for waves except for during the winter when there are two reefs that work just off shore in the BIG swells. At low spring tides the inside (east side) dries out but the outside (west side) is good on all tide states. There is plenty of parking in the carpark and lots of grass to rig on. The beach is ideal for learning, very safe, very shallow (massive area where you can stay within your own depth), Blue Flag for clean water, big toilet block and is life guarded in the summer and busy weekends. Lessons are also available from Allplay windsurfing [1] (http://www.allplay.ie).
