This is the site where most people in this region (including me) learn to windsurf. A small but well-known windsurfing school (Brothers Wind) has a tent and storage facility on this beach, where they teach lessons, rent equipment, rent storage space, or just give you friendly advice on sailing spots and conditions.
Winds are consistent between July and December, but the season continues on through March with fewer days per week. There's no surf, but the water is often choppy. Many small fishing vessels are usually anchored right in front of the launch, but it's usually no problem to navigate around them and this actually makes for good practice turning when first learning. Close to shore, wind is gusty, but becomes steadier as you go out. More experienced sailors often go past the harbor's pier (straight North), where the wind is strongest and steadiest. The spot is the favorite for local formula and freeriding sailors, and more than one PWA Formula competitions have been held in the area.
After a day of sailing, the Beira-Mar Avenue is a great spot for a cold beer and people watching, since the side-walk gets full of joggers, bikers, and tourists.
